Activist Sonam Wangchuk has ended her hunger strike after 26 days. He broke his fast after receiving assurance from the Central Government to improve the examination system. At present he is admitted in Medanta Hospital, Gurugram and his condition is stable.
Gurugram (Haryana) [भारत]July 24 (ANI): Activist Sonam Wangchuk is stable and conscious after ending her 26-day hunger strike. He is undergoing treatment at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram. In a health update released on Friday, the hospital said that Wangchuk has broken his fast and is currently being given a liquid diet as per his medical needs. He is under the close supervision of doctors, who are monitoring his health improvement after a long fast.
Received written assurance from the government
A day earlier, Wangchuk had ended his 26-day hunger strike after receiving a written assurance from the central government regarding reforms in the competitive examination system. In a video message shared on Twitter, Wangchuk said Union ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh met him and gave the necessary guarantees.
Wangchuk said in the video message, “Hello friends. Today, on the 26th, I want to share some special news with all of you. It is now around 12:30 in the night. Some time ago, Union Ministers J.P. Nadda and Jitendra Singh had come to meet me here. Top leaders of the apex body were also present.”
Activists protesting against irregularities in recent national-level examinations said the success came after significant parliamentary support and intense negotiations. He said, “As you know, earlier about 65 MPs from different political parties came here, put their signatures and requested us to end the hunger strike. They assured us that they will discuss the issue of NEET paper and examination system in Parliament.”
Cockroach Janata Party demands
Earlier in the day, Cockroach Janata Party chief spokesperson Saurav Das said the party put forward four major demands to the central government over the NEET exam paper leak during a meeting with Union ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh. Das said the government has responded positively to some of them, and the Center has in principle accepted the demands related to compensation and withdrawal of FIRs. (ANI)
