In the story, Wilhelmina “Millie” Calloway, played by Sydney, is introduced as an ex-convict seeking stability. She is hired by Nina Winchester, portrayed by Amanda Seyfried, and her husband Andrew, played by Brandon Sklenar, to work as their live-in maid. The family’s sprawling Long Island mansion, funded by Andrew’s inherited wealth, seems like a fresh start for Millie. However, her reality soon proves darker.
Despite being employed to care for the home and the couple’s daughter, Cecelia, Millie is forced to live in a bleak attic room. As she settles in, she begins to sense that something is deeply wrong in the household. Determined to keep her employment, she overlooks warning signs, a choice that becomes increasingly dangerous as the story unfolds.
