Solar Eclipse 2025: Date, timings, visibility and astrological impact

Mumbai: The year’s second and final solar eclipse will take place in September 2025, marking an important astronomical and astrological phenomenon. According to the Hindu calendar, this eclipse will occur on the Amavasya (new moon) of the Ashwin month. While solar eclipses are scientifically significant, they also carry deep cultural and spiritual importance in Indian tradition.

However, this will be a partial solar eclipse starting late at night according to Indian Standard Time, which means it will not be visible in India. As a result, the eclipse will have no direct impact on the country, nor will the usual Sutak period — the ritualistic observance before an eclipse — be considered valid this time.

Date and Time of the Solar Eclipse

As per the Panchang, the solar eclipse will begin at around 11:00 pm IST on 21 September 2025 and last until 3:23 am on 22 September. In total, the eclipse will continue for more than four hours, but since it occurs during the night, it will not be visible in India.

Where Will the Eclipse Be Visible?

This partial solar eclipse will be seen in regions experiencing daylight at the time. These include the South Pacific Ocean, New Zealand, Australia, Africa, the Indian Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, the Southern Ocean, Polynesia, Melanesia, Norfolk Island, as well as the cities of Christchurch and Wellington.

Why Sutak Will Not Apply

In Hindu belief, Sutak is observed only when an eclipse is visible in India. Since the September solar eclipse will not be visible here, no Sutak rituals will be followed.

Astrological Impact on Zodiac Signs

Astrologers note that during the eclipse, the Sun will be positioned in Virgo and the Uttara Phalguni Nakshatra. This alignment may influence all twelve zodiac signs, though the absence of Sutak in India could lessen its negative effects. Still, natives of Virgo and those born under Uttara Phalguni are advised to remain cautious, as this period may pose challenges for them.
