Tamil Nadu Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin on Saturday expressed concern over the abduction and murder of a 10-year-old girl near Coimbatore and said the people of the state are demanding strict punishment for those responsible for the crime.
Udhayanidhi Stalin demands justice
In a post on X, Udhayanidhi Stalin said the incident has triggered widespread shock and grief across Tamil Nadu and that citizens are seeking swift justice in the case. “The incident of a 10-year-old girl being abducted and murdered in Coimbatore has caused immense shock and grief. The voice demanding true justice for this murder has echoed from all quarters,” he wrote.
He further said that people in Coimbatore were staging protests condemning the incident and seeking stringent action against the accused. “Condemning this heinous incident that has sent shockwaves across India, the people of Coimbatore are staging a night-long protest,” Udhayanidhi said.
Calling for strict punishment, he stressed that those responsible must be brought to justice without delay. “The real perpetrators of this barbaric act must be swiftly brought to severe punishment. In this hour of crisis, while conveying our condolences to the girl’s parents, I also wish to assure them that the DMK stands by their side,” he added.
‘Serious doubts on state’s law and order’
The DMK leader also raised concerns over the law-and-order situation in the state, alleging that several serious criminal incidents have taken place in recent days. “Since the new government assumed office, in just 12 days, over 30 major incidents–including sexual violence, ganja smuggling, rowdy attacks, the ruling party’s unruly excesses, and now the Coimbatore boy’s abduction and murder–have made headlines, casting serious doubts on the state’s law and order,” he said.
Urging the state government to prioritise public safety, Udhayanidhi added, “On behalf of the people of Tamil Nadu, I urge the Chief Minister to accord top priority to law and order to ensure no such incident ever happens again.”
Two arrested in connection with murder
Meanwhile, a 10-year-old schoolgirl was found dead near a pond in the Sulur area of Coimbatore district, following which police arrested two persons in connection with the case, officials said on Saturday.
According to police, the girl had gone missing while playing in front of her house. Her parents and relatives later found her body near the pond, triggering tension in the area.
Family members suspect sexual assault and have demanded strict action against those responsible. Sulur police have registered a case and sent the body to the Government Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Police suspect that the child may have been strangled to death. (ANI)
