A special traffic plan has been made for the Neelkanth Yatra starting from July 30 in Uttarakhand. Separate routes and parking arrangements have been made for the Kanwariyas coming on foot and by vehicles, so that the pilgrimage remains smooth and safe.
Rishikesh (Uttarakhand) [भारत]July 23 (ANI): Authorities in Uttarakhand have made special transport arrangements for the Neelkanth Yatra. A coordination meeting was held on Wednesday to ensure smooth movement of Kanwar pilgrims going to Neelkanth on foot and in vehicles. Kanwar Yatra will run from 30th July to 11th August.
Dehradun Rural SP Jai Baluni said the meeting focused on mutual coordination between Haridwar, Rishikesh, Muni Ki Reti and Laxman Jhula to facilitate hassle-free travel to the pilgrims. He told ANI on Wednesday, “A coordination meeting was held today, which specifically focused on the traffic arrangements for foot and vehicle travelers going to Neelkanth. This includes ensuring coordination between Haridwar, Rishikesh, Muni Ki Reti and Laxman Jhula, so that the Neelkanth Yatra proceeds without any hassles. We discussed various parking spots, such as the IDPL parking in the Muni Ki Reti area. We discussed the traffic movement plan and the main Also talked about duty points.”

He further informed that the route fixed for return will go from Laxman Jhula to Barrage and via Chilla. The SP said, “For traffic going to Neelkanth, our primary parking point is IDPL. Pedestrians park their big vehicles there and then go to Neelkanth on foot via the barrage. Those who come in smaller vehicles, pass through Muni Ki Reti via Nataraj Bypass and proceed towards Garuda Chatti. The return route is from Lakshman Jhula via barrage and Chilla. However, if the Been river floods or When vehicles stop plying after 6 pm, we will divert those vehicles from the barrage towards Haridwar via Shyampur.”
The SP also discussed various parking spots, traffic operation plans and major duty points to manage the crowd during the yatra.
Appeal to devotees for peaceful journey
He said, “Every year Kanwar pilgrims come for this yatra, and Uttarakhand always welcomes them warmly. This year too, we are making full preparations to ensure that their Kanwar yatra is smooth, safe and enjoyable. We appeal to them to come with a positive spirit and leave with good memories. Our efforts are focused on making their journey safe, and we request them to carry out their pilgrimage properly and avoid any kind of inconvenience.” Avoid fuss or conflict.”
Kanwar Yatra is an annual pilgrimage in which devotees of Lord Shiva, called ‘Kanwariyas’, travel to holy sites such as Haridwar, Gaumukh and Gangotri in Uttarakhand to collect holy water from the river Ganga. Carrying water in vessels called ‘Kanwad’, pilgrims later perform ‘Jalabhishek’ (ritual of offering holy water) at the temples of Lord Shiva. (ANI)
