New Delhi: Chinese car company BYD has launched its new generation Atto 3 electric SUV. The company has made many major changes in this updated model. The cabin of the new Atto 3 now comes with a cooled storage compartment, drawers under the rear seats and even a special tissue holder. The new Atto 3 will now be officially available for sale in four variants. The company has kept its price between 119,900 Yuan (approximately Rs 16.86 lakh) to 149,900 Yuan (approximately Rs 21.08 lakh) in its domestic market i.e. China.
Along with the new styling and more feature-packed interiors, BYD has also introduced its new e-Platform 3.0 Evo architecture, upgraded blade battery technology and optional LiDAR-based driver assistance system for the first time in this crossover. This crossover is also available in India. If we talk about dimensions, now the length of this SUV is 4,665mm, width is 1,895mm and height is 1,675mm, while its wheelbase is 2,770mm. Its exterior design carries forward BYD’s existing ‘Dragon Face’ design style, featuring slim headlamps, a flat front and clean surfaces.
There is also a full-width rear lighting setup on the tailgate, which features a distinctive weave pattern. At the same time, hidden door handles help in improving its aerodynamics. Storage capacity has also been increased. A 180 liter powered frunk (front trunk) has been added at the front, which can be opened by lightly tapping. The rear luggage compartment can hold up to 750 liters of luggage. BYD is offering this crossover in nine different colors, including several dual-tone options. A lot of changes have been made in the cabin compared to the previous model.
There’s a large floating touchscreen in the middle of the cabin, which runs BYD’s new DiLink interface. The steering wheel has been redesigned to a neat two-spoke design. The gear selector is now placed behind the steering wheel, freeing up more space on the center console. The top-spec variant comes with great features like ventilated front seats, heated steering wheel, 50W wireless charging pad, a larger head-up display and a 16-speaker audio system.
BYD has also added a powered relaxation seat for the front passenger, which includes forward-moving leg support. Apart from this, there are hidden storage spaces under the rear seats, glass holders and several compartments in the cabin. Instead of the previous front-wheel drive configuration, the new Atto 3 now has a rear-wheel drive layout.
To power it, there is an electric motor installed at the rear, which generates power of 200 kW (268 hp) or 240 kW (322 hp) depending on the variant selected. Battery options include 57.5 kWh and 68.5 kWh second-generation Blade battery packs, which come with BYD’s latest flash charging technology. These help in delivering a range of 540 kms and 630 kms respectively as per CLTC cycle.
For suspension, MacPherson struts have been provided at the front and 5-link system at the rear. It also includes DiSus-C adaptive damping, iTAC 2.0 torque management and tire blowout stability control. Some variants also come with the DiPilot 300 Advanced Assistance package, which includes LiDAR and 30 sensing devices. This system supports functions like Urban Navigation Assist, Highway Assist and Automated Parking.
