Bharmour MLA Janak Raj on Thursday praised the National Highway Authority (NHAI). NHAI rescued a seven-month-old baby and his family, dependent on oxygen support, stranded on National Highway (NH) 154-A due to heavy rains and landslides.
Talking about the incident, Raj said that NHAI employees displayed extraordinary courage and humanitarian commitment despite incessant rain and dangerous conditions while working to restore road connectivity in the Bharmour area.
Assurance of highway condition and improvement
He said, “NH 154-A is now directly under the supervision of the central government. Earlier, people traveling on this road had to risk their lives and depend on luck due to its poor condition. NHAI has assured that within a year the highway will be completely improved and made safe.”
How was the child rescued?
According to the MLA, the emergency situation arose when a landslide closed the highway from both sides, leaving a family carrying a seven-month-old baby dependent on oxygen support stranded on the road.
“Understanding the gravity of the situation, NHAI’s highway patrol team acted without any delay and safely transported the child and the family to a hospital using patrol vehicles,” Raj said.

He said that NHAI staff continued the road restoration work despite active landslides and continuous falling of rocks and also provided assistance to the stranded passengers.
“The team’s dedication in such dangerous circumstances is a remarkable example of public service, courage and humanitarian responsibility,” he said.
Raj also appreciated the efforts of NHAI officials and staff in restoring connectivity in the area despite adverse weather conditions.
MLA’s appeal to the public
Appealing to the public, he urged people to avoid non-essential travel in the current spell of heavy rains and strictly follow the advisories issued by the administration and concerned departments.
He further said, “People should travel only when it is absolutely necessary, remain alert, stay away from landslide-prone areas and swollen rivers and contact authorities immediately in case of any emergency.”
