Delhi Police said, “A regular quarterly renewal of powers under the National Security Act (NSA) has been wrongly linked to the ongoing CJP protests. Many policemen including ACP injured in violent protest
Delhi Police has earlier registered a case in connection with the alleged violence and stone pelting in the Connaught Place area, in which Assistant Commissioner of Police (Punjabi Bagh) Jai Prakash and Connaught Place ACP Vivek Bhagat were injured. The incident followed reports of stone pelting from near Jantar Mantar, where CJP’s protest over the national paper leak is continuing amid tight security. Apart from this, Inspector Nand Kishore and several other policemen were also injured in stone pelting.
According to a statement from RML Hospital, investigation found swelling on both the upper and lower limbs of ACP Vivek Bhagat as well as multiple injuries on the shoulder and parieto-occipital region.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Punjabi Bagh) Jai Prakash, who was hit on the forehead while on duty near Jantar Mantar on Wednesday, said when the police tried to stop the protesters from moving towards Parliament, “a stone hit them.”
10 FIRs registered against CJP
Delhi Police has already registered 10 FIRs in connection with the protests organized by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) in the national capital. According to police officials, these cases have been registered in multiple jurisdictions in New Delhi district, relating to various incidents and law-order concerns reported during the protests.
CJP accused BJP of irregularities
Responding to the claims of stone pelting, CJP representative Abhijit Dipke had on Thursday alleged that people were being sent from outside to deliberately disrupt the ongoing student protests, and accused Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers of pelting stones and attempting to defame the protesters.
Speaking to reporters, Dipke said that the protest had been going on for a month without any such incident, but claimed that the situation changed after the protest gained momentum. He said, “People are being sent from outside to deliberately disrupt the protest. We have been sitting here for a month. There has been no such incident in a month. But now, as this protest has increased, goons are being sent from outside by the BJP to deliberately instigate people.”
Heavy security forces deployed at Jantar Mantar
The incident followed a tense confrontation between protesters and police personnel following the CJP’s Parliament march on Monday, following which there were reports of police using lathi charge and tear gas to disperse the crowd. According to Delhi Police, more than 100 police officers were injured in the confrontation, while CJP workers have accused the police of “brutality” against the protesters.
To maintain law and order for the large gathering, heavy security has been deployed at Jantar Mantar in the national capital, where the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) is continuing its protest demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the recent paper leak controversy.
