Uttarakhand Weather: Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms Continue; Death Toll Rises To 15, 16 Still Missing in Dehradun | Check Forecast

Uttarakhand Weather Today: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Uttarakhand, warning of heavy rain, thunder, and lightning.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Dehradun and Nainital today, while thunderstorms are likely in Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Champawat, and Udham Singh Nagar.

This year, Uttarakhand has recorded above-normal rainfall, with Dehradun witnessing its heaviest rain in 101 years. The city received 264 mm of rain till 8:30 am, far exceeding the average, while Maldevata recorded 149 mm, the second highest.

Dehradun Heavy Rain On Monday

Since Monday night, Dehradun has been battered by incessant downpours, causing widespread damage to roads, houses, and shops in Tapovan, Sahastradhara, and the IT Park area. At least 15 people have died, 13 in Dehradun, one in Nainital, and one in Udham Singh Nagar. Sixteen people remain missing, and over 900 are stranded as swollen rivers have washed away roads and bridges.

Uttarakhand Weather Forecast

Thunderstorms with heavy rainfall and lightning are forecast in Uttarakhand’s hilly districts and Udham Singh Nagar on September 18, with a yellow alert issued for the Kumaon region on September 19 and 20. Current conditions show a high chance of rain statewide, with temperatures between 20 and 29 Degree Celsius, humidity at 93 percent, and light winds of 3-5 km/h.

Roads and Other Infra Damaged

The downpour has severely damaged infrastructure, with roads, including the Dehradun-Mussoorie route, broken and bridges washed away, causing major traffic disruptions. Videos on social media show SDRF and NDRF teams rescuing people trapped in strong currents using ropes and boats.

CM Pushkar Singh Dhami Floods And Landslide

Over 400 students stranded at Devbhoomi Sansthan in Paundha after floodwaters entered the campus were safely evacuated. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, after visiting the affected areas, said roads at 25-30 locations have been washed away, disrupting communication and daily life, but assured that the state government is conducting relief and rescue operations on a war footing.

Meanwhile, several parts of Dehradun, Tehri, Nainital, and Pithoragarh continue to receive rainfall, and officials have urged residents to stay safe and avoid unnecessary travel.
