MP Food Department Reforms: Chief Minister Mohan Yadav stressed on innovations for consumer interests in the review meeting of the Food Department. Through ration distribution, GPS monitoring, Jan Poshan Mart and online system, the government is saving crores of rupees and people are getting direct benefits.

Madhya Pradesh government is now working rapidly towards developing the food and ration distribution system not just as a government scheme but as a technology-based public service model. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav clearly said in the review meeting of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Department that the department should work in the interest of consumers by continuously innovating.

During the review meeting held at the Ministry in Bhopal, the Chief Minister appreciated several technical and administrative reforms being done by the department. He said that the common people are getting direct benefits from the modern system, transparency and use of technology and work in this direction should continue.

Ration information now directly on mobile

The state government has started a new system under the Chief Minister Anna Seva Awareness Program, in which information about ration distribution is being sent to the eligible beneficiaries through mobile messages. The government believes that this will increase transparency and people will be able to get timely information about when and where their ration was supplied. The Chief Minister described this as an important step towards consumer welfare.

Fair price shops are being made ‘Jan Poshan Mart’

The Chief Minister said that fair price shops in the state are not being limited to just ration distribution centres, rather they are being developed as “Jan Poshan Mart”. The objective of this initiative is to provide essential food items and nutrition related facilities to the needy people in a better way. Experts believe that if this model is implemented effectively then rural and poor families can get huge benefits from it.

Government saves Rs 42 lakh every month

Chief Minister Yuva Annadoot Scheme was also reviewed in the meeting. Officials said that the government is saving about Rs 42 lakh every month through transport route optimization. Under the scheme, GPS based monitoring system has been installed in vehicles transporting ration, which is being tracked from the State Level Command Control Centre. This has strengthened monitoring and helped in controlling irregularities.

Preparation to reduce losses in grain storage

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also stressed on reducing losses during grain storage. He appreciated the initiative of providing training to the employees of Warehousing and Logistics Corporation at the Indian Institute of Management Mumbai. The aim of the government is to increase storage capacity and reduce wastage of grains through modern technologies and better management.

Increased transparency through online system

Civil Supplies Corporation has made the payment process completely online. Apart from this, verification of vehicles being used in procurement, milling and transportation is being done through ULIP software. According to officials, due to the new arrangements, the government has also made huge savings in interest amount. A saving of about Rs 18 crore has been recorded due to the new payment system implemented for the purchase of empty gunny bags.

New model will be ready for wheat procurement

The Chief Minister gave instructions to further strengthen the wheat procurement system. He said that such a model should be prepared in which small, medium and micro industries along with self-help groups also participate in wheat processing, grading and other works. The government believes that this will strengthen the rural economy and will also increase employment opportunities at the local level.

Focus also on e-KYC and gas distribution

Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, Public Distribution System (PDS), Urban Gas Distribution Network and e-KYC campaign of PDS beneficiaries were also reviewed in the meeting. The Chief Minister directed the officials to ensure that the benefits of the schemes reach the eligible people in a timely and transparent manner. Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Minister Govind Singh Rajput, Chief Secretary Anurag Jain and other senior officials were present in the meeting.
