Former IPS officer Kiran Bedi has given a new suggestion to deal with student protests. He said that civil defense should be deployed before the police, so that conflicts between students and police are reduced. Know what appeal he made to PM Modi and Amit Shah.
Amid the ongoing debate over student protests in Jantar Mantar and Delhi, former IPS officer and former Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry Kiran Bedi has given a different suggestion to the Central Government. He said that instead of keeping the police at the forefront during student movements, civil defense should be deployed first. They believe that this will reduce direct confrontation between students and the police and tense situations can be handled in a more peaceful manner.
Civil defense should get the responsibility first, not the police.
Giving the example of border security in her video message, Kiran Bedi said that just as Border Security Force (BSF) is deployed on the borders before the army, in the same way civil defense personnel should be fielded before the police in student protests.
He said that civil defense personnel should have only safety equipment like cane shield, body armor and helmet. They should not have sticks or other weapons. This will maintain confidence among the protesters and reduce the possibility of tension increasing.

Suggestion tagged PM Modi and Amit Shah
Tagging Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in his message, the former IPS officer said that the police should come forward only when its presence is necessary for the safety of life and property.
He says that if Civil Defense takes charge of the situation at the initial level, then direct confrontation between police and students can be avoided. This will also reduce the subsequent allegations and counter-allegations and disputes.
Suggestion came into discussion amid CJP protest
This suggestion of Kiran Bedi has come at a time when there were several clashes between the police and the protesters during the student protests led by CJP. The protesters accused the police of using excessive force, while the police also said that many of its soldiers were injured.
It is in this background that Bedi has proposed a civil defense based model. He believes that this system can offer a more humane and balanced approach while maintaining law and order. However, at present no official information has been revealed about whether the government will take any action on this suggestion or not.
