A major accident took place in Dhenkanal, Odisha on Thursday. Here the vehicle going to a wedding ceremony fell into the pond, in which 5 people died due to drowning. According to police, two people have been rescued alive. The case is being investigated.
Dhenkanal (Odisha) [भारत]July 23 (ANI): Five people died after the vehicle they were traveling in for a wedding went out of control and fell into a pond near Indipur-Chhatiya village under Dhenkanal Sadar police station area, police said on Thursday.
According to Dhenkanal police, two people were rescued alive from the vehicle, while five others trapped inside died due to drowning. The bodies have been sent to Dhenkanal District Headquarters Hospital for post-mortem and the cause of the accident is being investigated.
The groom’s brother was also among the dead.
While heading towards Indipur, where the wedding was taking place, the vehicle lost control at night and fell into a nearby pond. The deceased have been identified as Ram Sahu (25), Avinash Sahu (26), Rakesh Kumar Sahu (25), Chandrakant Swain (27) and Abhijeet Sahu (25). One of the dead was the groom’s cousin.
Fire brigade personnel, with the help of local villagers, pulled the submerged vehicle out of the pond. Further details are awaited. (ANI)
