Delhi Clash 22 July 2026: On the night of Wednesday, July 22, the country’s capital Delhi witnessed such a horrifying scene which shook the security system. The ongoing agitation led by ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ (CJP) over alleged rigging in the NEET examination and the demand for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan suddenly turned into violent clashes. The area near Jantar Mantar and Connaught Place turned into a battlefield in no time. At around 8:30 in the night, suddenly stones and bottles started floating in the air near Tolstoy Marg, after which an atmosphere of panic and tension prevailed in the entire Central Delhi.

Bloody conflict on Tolstoy Marg: Many brave officers including ACP reached hospital
According to information received from police sources, all this chaos started when thousands of students and protesters near the State Bank of India crossing were intent on marching to Parliament. Then some miscreants hiding among the crowd started attacking the security personnel with stones and bottles. In this sudden deadly attack, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) of Connaught Place, Vivek Bhagat, who was on duty, was seriously injured, who was immediately taken to RML Hospital for treatment. According to initial reports, two ACPs, two inspectors and several police constables have lost their lives in the violent clash, the exact number of which is still being assessed.

What action did the police take during the protests?
As the violence spread, Delhi Police took strict measures to control the situation. Countless shells of tear gas were fired to disperse the protesters, causing smoke and chaos all around. According to eyewitnesses, police and protesters were face to face on the streets of Tolstoy Marg and Janpath. Seeing the situation going out of control, contingents of Rapid Action Force (RAF) and additional paramilitary forces were immediately deployed. The situation could be brought under control after a lot of effort with the help of heavy security cordon and barricades, but tension is still at its peak in the area.

Digital blackout: Internet service halted at Jantar Mantar, stir in political circles

Protests continue despite strict action
The latest violence comes amid days of massive protests in Delhi. The protesters are demanding accountability for alleged NEET irregularities and action against those responsible for the paper leak. CJP founder Abhijit Dipke posted updates on social media claiming that protesters were facing strict action from authorities, while opposition leaders also shared videos and statements of police action near Jantar Mantar.

However, the police said they were responding to the violence at the ground level and working to maintain law and order in the national capital. Security remained tight in Jantar Mantar and Connaught Place areas till late night and additional forces were deployed to prevent any further clashes.
