The country’s number one liquor manufacturing company made huge profits
Diageo-controlled liquor manufacturing company United Spirits Limited (USL) said on Wednesday that its consolidated net profit in the June quarter of financial year 2027 has increased by 51.55 percent on an annual basis to Rs 391 crore. According to regulatory filings of United Spirits Limited (USL), the company had reported a net profit of Rs 258 crore in the April-June quarter a year ago. The company’s revenue from operations increased by 4.98 percent to Rs 6,113 crore in the June quarter. It was Rs 5,823 crore in the same period of the last financial year. USL’s total expenses increased by 4.63 percent to Rs 5,781 crore in the June quarter. USL’s total income (which includes other income) increased by 7.66 percent to Rs 6,335 crore in the first quarter of FY 2027.
Good start for the company
CEO and Managing Director Praveen Someshwar said that we have made a strong start to FY 2027 with double-digit growth in the ‘Prestige & Above’ segment. With our customer-centric efforts, we are confident of achieving further growth as the year progresses. We are future-proofing our portfolio by creating long-term value for all our stakeholders. The Net Sales Value (NSV) of USL in the first quarter of FY 2027 was Rs 2,703 crore, which is 6 percent higher on an annual basis.
Impact of Maharashtra’s policy
The company said that this increase was due to Smirnoff’s local flavor innovation and broader growth across the entire portfolio. However, this growth was affected to some extent due to the continuous impact of adverse policies in Maharashtra. USL said in its earnings statement that the ‘Prestige and Above’ (P&A) segment witnessed a “strong double-digit growth of 10.1 per cent” in the June quarter. However, NSV for the ‘popular segment’ declined by 17.5 percent to Rs 206 crore.
decreased earnings
The company said this was due to the impact of MML in Maharashtra and recent policy changes in Karnataka, due to which the change in excise slabs had a negative impact on the earnings of this segment. In the June quarter, the ‘Prestige and above’ segment accounted for 91.7 per cent of net sales, while the ‘Popular’ segment accounted for 7.6 per cent. On Wednesday, shares of United Spirits Limited closed at Rs 1,404.60 per share on BSE, which is 0.96 percent higher than the previous closing price.
