There are both beliefs and misconceptions about snakes in India. It is generally believed that when a snake leaves its skin, it becomes very powerful and dangerous, but the question is how much truth is there in this. If we look from the scientific point of view, we will find that after a certain time it becomes mandatory for the snake to shed its old skin. A snake sheds its slough 6 to 8 times in a year. This happens more in summer. This is the reason why its skin i.e. slough is found lying in the fields and forests in summer. Now the question is whether the snake becomes more dangerous after leaving its slough? Now let us understand the answer.
First let us understand what scum is? The slime is actually the old and dead skin of the snake. In the language of science, the process of its removal is called Ecdysis. Even though a snake is a reptile, its skin is not flexible enough to expand as the body grows. Snakes often get injured while crawling. Parasites stick to it. Therefore it is necessary to remove the scum. As the snake’s body grows, it becomes difficult to crawl under its old skin. This is the reason why it removes the old skin i.e. filth.
4 big reasons to shed slough
- Body Enhancement: The body of a snake grows throughout its life, but its skin does not grow. As a result, he has to do this to get new and bigger skin.
- Freedom from parasites: While crawling in forests and fields, many types of parasites stick to it. The snake can neither wash nor rub it. This is the reason why it removes filth and also gets rid of parasites.
On an average, a snake sheds its slough 6 to 8 times in a year.
- Wound and old skin repair: After shedding its slough, the snake gets rid of its dead skin and wounds. With the new skin, crawling becomes many times easier than before.
- Easy to attract females: After shedding its slime, the snake becomes brighter and more active. It helps him to escape from predators and attract his mate.

Does a snake become more dangerous after shedding its skin?
There is half truth in this. Actually, the snake is more angry before shedding its skin, not after. This is because when the process of shedding the sloughing begins, the snake’s eyes become blurred and it cannot see properly. Therefore the snake naturally becomes a little alert. Can attack at the slightest movement.
Naturally he does this when he feels insecure. But as soon as the slime comes off completely and the eye layer becomes clean, the snake becomes normal again.

The interesting thing is that snakes do not have eyelids. There is a transparent layer on it which works to cover their eyes. This also comes off with the filth. That is, after it lands, it is clearly visible.
The slime tells whether the snake is sick
The slough tells many interesting things about the snake. If the slime does not come out completely in one go, it means that the snake is either sick or it is not getting the right moisture. Not only this, the species of snake is identified on the basis of scales formed on its body.
