The Central Government has appointed senior IAS officer Anurag Jain of 1989 batch of Madhya Pradesh cadre as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NITI Aayog. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved his appointment. According to the official order, Anurag Jain will hold the responsibility of this post for a tenure of two years. Due to his long experience in administrative and policy fields, he is counted among the experienced bureaucrats of the country.

Has handled many important responsibilities in Center and Madhya Pradesh

Anurag Jain has held many important positions in both the Central and Madhya Pradesh governments in his administrative career. He has been Secretary of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Secretary of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Joint Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Vice Chairman of Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and Managing Director of Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation.

Apart from this, he has also served as District Collector, Secretary to the Chief Minister and many other important administrative posts in Madhya Pradesh. His experience in areas such as infrastructure, industrial development and administrative reforms is considered his biggest strength.

Engineering from IIT Kharagpur, then became IAS officer

Anurag Jain, born on 11 August 1965 in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, has been a brilliant student since the beginning. He did B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur in the year 1986 and stood second in his batch. After engineering, he chose the path of civil services and in 1988, after passing the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination, he was selected in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). Later he also obtained a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Syracuse University, America.

Now will fulfill new responsibility in NITI Aayog

Anurag Jain was working on the post of Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh till recently. Now after becoming the CEO of NITI Aayog, he will play an important role in the country’s development policies, promoting cooperative and competitive federalism, evidence-based policy making and effective implementation of national development projects.

After his move to the Centre, the Madhya Pradesh government has appointed senior 1991 batch IAS officer Ashok Baranwal as the new Chief Secretary. Due to his administrative experience and understanding of policy making, this appointment of Anurag Jain is being considered an important decision for the Central Government.
