Durga Puja celebrations in Kolkata are set to take on a youthful new rhythm this year with the launch of #Pujo, described as the city’s first Gen Z anthem for the festival. The track, features actor Neel Bhattacharya .
Best known for his television roles in Krishnakoli and Thik Jeno Love Story, Bhattacharya not only stars in the music video but also lends his voice to the high-energy number. Sharing his excitement, he said the anthem captures the “Gen Z-meets-millennial” vibe of today’s Puja while staying rooted in tradition.
The anthem is composed by Kunal Sinha , popularly known as Groove Bhai, who has blended international pop beats with the distinctive sounds of Bengal’s biggest festival. “#Pujo is not just a song—it’s a youth anthem . It proves that today’s generation can celebrate Maa Durga with global beats and fresh energy,” he said.
Written by Soham Majumdar, the lyrics strike a balance between wit, emotion, and contemporary culture. The music video, directed by Arunim Das Purkayastha , features Bhattacharya alongside Isha Upadhya, and is designed to reflect the grandeur of Puja pandals. Shot in Durgapur with sets crafted by designers from Mumbai, the visuals aim to recreate the inclusivity and spectacle of the festival on screen.
Purkayastha described the video as a “visual ode to unity, tradition, and the evolving pulse of celebration,” bringing together hip hop performers, children, and elders in one shared festive rhythm.
