The Boys Season 5 Episode 8 ending explained
The Boys enter the White House
The finale episode begins with The Boys planning to kill Homelander once and for all. However, he has injected himself with V1 and is immortal. As they cope with the death of Frenchie, Sister Sage provokes Kimiko to spark her nuclear blast power, the same power that Soldier Boy has. Kimiko, then, attacks Sage, taking away her power of super intelligence.
Now that they have the power to kill Homelander, The Boys started to plan an attack on The Seven inside the White House. However, Homelander suspected that they would come, and the group got trapped behind the locked door. But President Ashley Barrett finally listens to her conscience and frees them.
Deep then tries to stop The Boys from entering the Oval Office, but Starlight kills him with the help of some of the sea creatures. Meanwhile, Oh Father also attacks them, but he is killed when an indestructible ball gag explodes his head.
Homelander vs Butcher: The final showdown
In the end, the final battle comes down to Homelander facing Butcher, Kimiko, and eventually Ryan, who turns against his own father. Kimiko struggles to activate her powers at first, but a vision of Frenchie helps her activate them, and she strips Homelander, Butcher, and Ryan of their powers. Hence, making Homelander mortal once again.
Homelander, who is powerless and a human now, is killed by Butcher when he strikes him in the head with a crowbar. Interestingly, the entire showdown is broadcast live across the country. After the final showdown, things seem to be peaceful as the survivors drink beer and smoke cigars. However, Butcher’s story isn’t over. He asks Ryan to start a new life with him, but Ryan tells him that just because Homelander was evil, doesn’t make Butcher a good person.
Unfortunately, Butcher’s dog Terror dies of old age, leaving him devastated. Consumed by grief, he takes the supe-killing virus and heads to Vought Tower to kill all supes. Hughie tries to stop him, leading to the final fight between him and his friends. In the end, Butcher is shot dead, and he takes his last breath in Hughie’s arms.
