New Delhi: In the latest development in the Punjabi singer Inder Kaur murder case, the primary accused, Sukhwinder Kaur’s father, Pritam Singh, and his friend Karamjit Singh, have been arrested. Punjabi singer Inder Kaur, known as Yashinder Kaur, was allegedly kidnapped and murdered by a Canada-based man after she refused to marry him, police said.
Sukhwinder Singh allegedly shot her dead before dumping the body and car into the canal and fleeing to Canada, according to a preliminary probe. However, he has fled back to Canada via Nepal after orchestrating the crime, according to police.

The body of 29-year-old Punjabi singer was recovered from a canal in Ludhiana six days after she went missing, police said on Tuesday. She was a resident of Jamalpur in Ludhiana and had reportedly left home on May 13 in her car to buy groceries but never returned. The singer’s brother accused Sukhwinder Singh, his father, Pritam Singh and friend Karamjit Singh of kidnapping her at gunpoint, police said.
According to police, Sukhwinder, originally from Moga but settled in Canada, had allegedly been pressuring the singer to marry him despite being married and having children. Investigation revealed that the two had become friends on Instagram nearly three years ago. However, when Kaur learned about his marital status, she refused to marry him.
Police are currently trying to trace Sukhwinder Singh. Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana, Inderjit Singh Boparai said the singer’s car was discovered in the canal on Sunday, following which divers were deployed for the recovery operation. The body was later sent to Samrala Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Inder Kaur is known for her songs, including ‘Aakad’, ‘Jija’, ‘Sohna Lagda’, ‘Rich Standard’, ‘Kadon Tun Milengi and Sunroof’. She had also collaborated with Gippy Grewal on the track ‘Sone Di Wang’.The singer enjoyed the fan following of nearly 1.24 lakh on Instagram.
Meanwhile, police is investigating the case from all angles.
