Alert, commuters! Complete closure on Mumbai-Pune Expressway today; alternate routes announced

Mumbai: Commuters should brace for travel disruptions on Tuesday, September 16, as crucial maintenance work is set to affect two major routes in Maharashtra. The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has scheduled repair work on the Mumbai–Pune Expressway, while the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will carry out road widening activities on the Alandi–Pandharpur Palakhi Highway.

On the expressway, traffic will come to a complete stop between 2 PM and 3 PM, affecting a stretch near the Kon Bridge, specifically between the 9.600 km and 9.700 km markers. Officials say the work involves repairing the 22 KV Bhatan–Ajivali line, a task considered essential for ensuring an uninterrupted electricity supply in the region.

The Maharashtra Traffic Department, under Additional Director General of Police (Traffic) Pravin Salunke, has issued advisory guidelines to help commuters navigate the disruption and avoid congestion.

Traffic advisories for Mumbai–Pune Expressway for today:

  • Mumbai to Pune:

    • Divert via Kalamboli Circle → JNPT Road D-Point → Palaspe → rejoin NH-48.

    • Alternatively, exit at 8.200 km Shendug Exit and reconnect with NH-48 further along the route.

  • Pune to Mumbai:

    • Take the Khapoli Exit at 39.100 km → proceed via NH-48.

    • Or use Khalapur Toll Naka Exit at 32.600 km → travel along Pali Bridge → rejoin the expressway.

  • Normal traffic is expected to resume after 3 PM at Khalapur Toll Naka or Magic Point.

Disruptions at Alandi–Pandharpur Palakhi Highway today

Meanwhile, the Alandi–Pandharpur Palakhi Highway, particularly the Hadapsar–Dive Ghat section, will be closed from 11 AM to 2 PM to allow road widening work involving blasting operations. The NHAI has advised commuters to plan alternate routes to avoid delays.

Authorities are urging all travellers to factor in these temporary closures when planning journeys between Mumbai and Pune or along the Hadapsar–Dive Ghat stretch. Motorists are advised to leave early, follow traffic diversion signs, and stay updated with real-time traffic alerts to ensure a smoother journey.
