Story of Indira Ekadashi fast
There was a mighty king named Indrasen in the Satyuga. He ruled a city named Mahishmati. All were happy and prosperous in his kingdom. One day when King Indrasen was sitting in his meeting, then Devarishi Narada came there. The king respected Devarishi Narada properly.

When King Indrasen asked the reason for the arrival of Devarishi Narada, he said, ‘When I went to Yamalok in the last days, I saw your father sitting there. Your father was a great donor and righteous, but due to the fasting of Ekadashi, he is residing in Yamlok. They have also sent a message to you. ‘
Devarishi Narada said, your father said, ‘I have to live in Yamlok due to the sins of any of my previous births, if my son Indrasen fasts the Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month and gives me the fruit, then I will be liberated and I will reside in heaven.’
King Indrasen was very sad to hear the father’s message from the mouth of Devarishi Narada and he decided to fast on the Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month and also asked Naradji the whole method of that fast. Naradji told King Indrasen the whole method and left.
On coming to Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month, King Indrasen fasted Indira Ekadashi with his entire family. Due to the influence of this fast, King Indrasen’s father left Yamlok and went to heaven. Even by listening to the story of this fast, a person gets freedom from all sins.
