Inder Kaur found dead in a canal
Punjabi singer Inder Kaur, who had released the track Sohna Lagda recently, was found murdered nearly six days after she allegedly went missing from Ludhiana. Her body was recovered from the Neelo Canal on Tuesday around 11 am. Inder was a rising name in the Punjabi music scene and had gained recognition for her regional songs and growing online popularity. According to family members, the singer had left her residence on May 13 to purchase household items but never returned home.
As per a report in India Today, her brother, Jotinder Singh, revealed in his police complaint that Inder had gone out in her Ford Figo car around the evening hours. When repeated attempts to contact her failed, the family launched a search and eventually approached the police to register a missing complaint.
Inder Kaur was a Punjabi singer
The family alleged that Inder had been abducted at gunpoint and blamed a man identified as Sukhwinder Singh alias Sukha for the crime. Sukhwinder, a resident of Bhaloor village in Moga who is reportedly based in Canada, was allegedly pressuring the singer to marry him for a long time. According to the victim’s family, the accused was already married and had children but continued harassing Inder with repeated marriage proposals. They claimed that she consistently rejected him, which allegedly led to the brutal crime.
Family raises questions about Police investigation
Police investigations reportedly revealed that Inder knew Sukhwinder Singh personally. Authorities now suspect that the accused travelled from Canada to Punjab through Nepal specifically to execute the plan. On May 13, he and his associates allegedly intercepted the singer’s vehicle, kidnapped her at gunpoint, murdered her and later dumped her body into the canal. Investigators further suspect that after carrying out the crime, Sukhwinder escaped back to Canada using the same Nepal route.
The family has also questioned the police response in the case, as per the same India Today report. They stated that an FIR against Sukhwinder Singh and another accused, Karamjit Singh, had already been registered at Jamalpur Police Station on May 15. According to them, immediate action by authorities could have potentially prevented the murder.
Following the recovery of the body, police shifted the remains to the Civil Hospital mortuary in Samrala for post-mortem examination. Jamalpur Police Station SHO Balbir Singh confirmed that a case has been registered under relevant sections and efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest all accused individuals involved in the crime.
