Ishan Kishan back, maiden call-up for Prince Yadav as India announce ODI squad for Afghanistan series

New Delhi: Rishabh Pant was dropped, while Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma made the cut as the Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel announced India’s ODI squad for the upcoming three-match series against Afghanistan on Tuesday, May 19. The series is set to get underway on June 14, with the first ODI to be played at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala.

Shubman Gill will continue to lead India in the fifty-over format as the Men in Blue begin their preparations for the ODI World Cup next year. While Kohli and Rohit have been selected in the squad, the Hitman’s selection remains subject to fitness clearance. Rohit had suffered a hamstring injury in the ongoing IPL 2026 and missed a few games for the Mumbai Indians.

Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan has made his comeback in the ODI setup after his stellar show for India in T20Is. Kishan was dropped from the national team after the Australia tour in 2023 and subsequently lost his BCCI central contract before making a thumping comeback in T20Is. He was one of the key performers for India in the T20 World Cup earlier this year, helping the Men in Blue clinch a second successive title.

Kishan is back in India’s ODI squad for the first time since 2023. Hardik Pandya, who is currently out injured for the Mumbai Indians in the ongoing IPL 2026, has also been selected in the squad, subject to fitness clearance. Shreyas Iyer, who has been one of India’s most consistent performers in ODIs, will continue to serve as Gill’s deputy.
