Aamir Khan told that the second part of the 2014 film ‘PK’ was changed before its release. The reason for this was the similarity of the film’s theme with ‘OMG: Oh My God’. This change was made on the suggestion of director Rajkumar Hirani, which proved successful.
Aamir Khan recently opened up about how he handles the failure of his films and why it is important to learn from them. The actor stressed that accepting the outcome of a film is the first step before knowing where things went wrong. In the same conversation, he also shared an interesting anecdote related to his 2014 blockbuster film ‘PK’. He told that the second part of the film was changed before release.
What did Aamir Khan say on failure?
Speaking to Variety India, Aamir explained that he doesn’t run away from failure. Instead, he accepts it and studies the audience’s reactions closely. He said, “The first thing I do is accept it. It’s very important to accept what has happened. If a film doesn’t work, the simple thing is – it didn’t work.”
Instead of blaming anyone, Aamir takes an analytical path. He closely examines every project that does not perform as per expectations, to understand where it fell short. According to him, the process is quite structured, almost like solving a puzzle.
deliberate decision
Aamir also stressed the importance of discussions with directors before the film’s release. These conversations help in knowing whether the team has achieved what it had planned. He said that this kind of creative assessment allows filmmakers to honestly evaluate their work before it reaches the audience.
Why was the second half of ‘PK’ changed?
Talking about ‘PK’, Aamir revealed that the team decided to rework the second part of the film after they found that its theme was somewhat similar to that of ‘OMG: Oh My God’, which was released sometime back. Although the story was completely different, the similarity in some themes raised concerns. Director Rajkumar Hirani suggested that changes should be made in ‘PK’ to keep it different. Aamir told, “The story was completely different, but some themes seemed similar. Raju said that we have to change our second half, and that’s what we did.”
a risk that worked
Aamir admitted that even after making changes, the team was not completely satisfied, as the changed version was different from his original idea. However, they went ahead with the version they felt best at the time. Luckily, this decision worked in his favor. ‘PK’ became a huge commercial hit, proving that last-minute creative changes can sometimes make a big difference.
