Who is the best cricketer in the world? This is a debate that has been going on for many years. Many great cricketers have left their mark in this game but there has always been a debate about who is the best. This debate has continued further. Now the International Cricket Council has started a campaign to find the answer to this question. ICC is searching to find out who has been the best player in the world in cricket in the last 25 years. But among those who have been selected for this work, one player who has surprised is Pakistan’s Test captain Shan Masood.
According to a PTI report, ICC has prepared a jury of many former and current players to select the best cricketer in the last 25 years. While this jury includes great cricket players like Ravi Shastri, Matthew Hayden, Wasim Akram, Ian Bishop, David Gower, Pakistani Test captain Shan Masood is also there. Masood is part of this list because the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had recommended his name to the ICC.
Making Shan Masood a part of this jury is shocking for everyone because he himself has not been able to impress much as a batsman and captain. In his 45 Test match career for Pakistan, 36 year old Masood has scored 2561 runs at an average of only 30, in which he has been able to score only 6 centuries. Under his captaincy, Pakistan has played 15 test matches, in which the team has won only 4 and lost 11. At the same time, defeat against Bangladesh in 16 test matches also seems certain.
While the selection of Shan Masood is surprising, most of the other names are reassuring. 23 veteran players have been selected by ICC for this jury. It includes Ravi Shastri, Ajit Agarkar, Cheteshwar Pujara and Irfan Pathan from India. Apart from these, these names are included in this list – Wasim Akram, Shan Masood, David Gower, Ian Bishop, Mark Boucher, Carlos Brathwaite, Tom Moody, Greg Chappell, Matthew Hayden, Aaron Finch, Andrew Flower, Allan Donald, Faf du Plessis, Daniel Vettori, Ross Taylor, Shane Watson, Jonathan Trott, Tim Southee and Eoin Morgan.
