High speed train will run between Mumbai-Ahmedabad
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had informed in Parliament that the 508 km long Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) project will pass through Maharashtra, Gujarat and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. A total of 12 stations are being built in this corridor, including:
- Mumbai
- Thane
- Virar
- boisar
- Vapi
- Bilimora
- Surat
- Bharuch
- Vadodara
- Pleasure
- Ahmedabad
- Sabarmati, included.
This route will connect one of the busiest economic corridors of the country with the high speed rail network.
Rapid construction work going on at many stations
According to the Railway Ministry, foundation work has been completed at eight stations in Gujarat — Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Anand, Vadodara, Ahmedabad and Sabarmati. Construction work is going on in Thane, Virar and Boisar of Maharashtra. At the same time, about 91 percent of the excavation work at Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) station has been completed.
tunnel under the sea
The most talked about part of this project is also the under-sea tunnel. According to the Railways, the construction work of the undersea tunnel has started. Work of about 4.8 km stretch between Ghansoli and Shilphata has been completed. It is being considered one of the most challenging projects in India’s infrastructure history.
17 river bridges ready
So far 17 river bridges have been constructed under the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project. In Gujarat, the work of bridges being built on big rivers like Narmada, Mahi, Tapti and Sabarmati is also progressing rapidly. Construction work is going on on four river bridges in Maharashtra also.
Train will be developed under ‘Make in India’
The Railway Ministry says that this project is not limited to high speed travel only, but it also aims to promote modern rail technology in India. Integral Coach Factory and BEML Limited are jointly developing this train set. The design speed of the train is said to be 280 kilometers per hour. The government claims that this project will strengthen the ‘Make in India’ initiative and will help in making India self-reliant in high speed rail technology in the future.
Japanese technology, changes according to Indian needs
The cooperation of Japanese railway technology is being taken in the Bullet Train project. However, the Railway Ministry says that the design and safety system have been customized according to Indian weather and conditions. State-of-the-art technology and high-frequency operation system is being prepared for the safety of passengers.
Land acquisition work completed
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav told in the Lok Sabha that the acquisition of 1,389.5 hectares of land required for this project has been completed. He said the affected people have been provided compensation and rehabilitation facilities under the law. The rehabilitation process was completed with the cooperation of the Central and State Governments.
Preparation to keep fare between airline and railway
According to the Railway Ministry, there is a plan to keep the fare of Bullet Train such that it is competitive between air travel and premium train services. The government wants that more and more people can take advantage of this high speed service.
