‘I am trapped’: Twisha Sharma to friend in Instagram chat

According to reports, Sharma in an Instagram chat with one of her friends said, “I am trapped bro. Bas tu mat phasna. (I am trapped, bro. You just make sure you don’t get stuck.) Can’t talk much. I will call when the time is right.”

Her friend replied to her saying, “I am worried about you. I love you so much.”

Before this conversation on Instagram, Twisha also connected with some of her friends on WhatsApp. She talked to them about missing her home and having to leave her career. She also told them that she was not able to find direction in her marriage.

In a May 7 chat on WhatsApp, Twisha told one of her friends, “I have been under anxiety because I am sitting at home. I want to do something with my life. Shaadi makes your family, but you cannot stop working on yourself, for yourself regardless of where you are.”

She then warned her friends against rushing into marriage. She told them that they should take a decision about their marriage only after thinking about it thoroughly. She then ended the conversation, telling her friend that she would call her again some time later.

Her friend replied saying that she was worried about Twisha. But the woman reassured her that she was doing fine, only that she missed her maternal home a lot.

The police meanwhile have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the death. They have booked Twisha’s husband and in-laws for dowry harassment, after a complaint against them by the woman’s family.

Who was Twisha Sharma?

Twisha Sharma hailed from Noida in Uttar Pradesh. She got married 5 months back to Samarth Singh and moved to Bhopal. On May 12 her family was informed by Samarth’s mother that their daughter was not breathing. Later the family got to know that Twisha died by suicide. She was found hanging at her husband’s home in Katara Hills in Bhopal.

Samarth is a lawyer and his mother, i.e. Twisha’s mother-in-law is a retired judge. Based on a complaint by Twisha’s family, both mother and son have been booked for dowry harassment. While her mother-in-law secured anticipatory bail, her husband’s petition for bail is pending in court. He is currently absconding, according to the police.

The woman’s family sat on protest outside the residence of Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav. They demanded that another post mortem be carried out on Twisha’s body at AIIMS Delhi. The initial report said that she died due to hanging and multiple injury marks were found on her body.
