New Delhi: Jannik Sinner scripted history by becoming the youngest and only the second player after Novak Djokovic to complete a career Golden Masters after clinching the men’s singles title at the Italian Open 2026 on Sunday. Sinner beat Casper Ruud 6-4, 6-4 in straight sets to capture his maiden Italian Open crown and record his sixth consecutive ATP Masters 1000 tournament victory.
The world no.1 also became the first Italian to win the title since Adriano Panatta, who won the tournament 50 years ago. With his Italian Open victory, Sinner completed the full set of nine ATP Masters 1000 titles to complete a career Golden Masters. 24-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic is the only other player to have achieved the monumental feat.
Sinner won his first ATP Masters title at the Canadian Open in 2023 and has managed to win all nine tournaments at a striking pace, highlighting his domination in world tennis. It has taken the Italian only three years to complete the career Golden Slam, which Djokovic managed to complete at the age of 31.
The Serbian legend was 31 when he won the Cincinnati Open to complete his first career Golden Slam. Djokovic repeated the feat by winning all nine ATP 1000 tournaments at least twice at the age of 33 in 2020. The 24-time Grand Slam champion remains the only player to have achieved the stellar feat twice.
“I’m really, really happy – it’s been an incredible last two and a half months,” said Sinner after beating Ruud in the final on Sunday to win the Italian Open.
“There has been a lot of tension – especially here in the final. But it’s a learning process. I can’t know everything at 24 years old,” he added.
