New Delhi: Maharashtra is currently witnessing a strange mix of extreme weather conditions, with scorching summer heat on one side and unseasonal rainfall activity on the other. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded a temperature of 30 degrees Celsius in Mumbai at 10:30 IST, with a humidity level ranging around 79 per cent.
The weather department has already issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad districts due to hot and humid weather conditions. Officials have advised residents to stay hydrated and avoid stepping outdoors between 12 noon and 4 pm as heatwave-like conditions may continue in isolated pockets of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
The city is expected to remain hot and humid on May 18, with temperatures likely to hover between 27 degrees Celsius and 35 degrees Celsius. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, Mumbai and its suburbs are expected to witness partly cloudy skies over the next 48 hours while humidity levels are likely to stay high throughout the day.

According to the RMC, Mumbai is expected to remain largely dry and sunny on Monday, May 18, despite isolated cloud cover during evening hours. The minimum temperature is likely to remain around 27 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature may touch 35 degrees Celsius.
While neighbouring district Thane is expected to receive light rain and thundershowers on May 18, this may bring slight relief from the prevailing heat. Gusty winds and brief rainfall activity are also likely in isolated pockets nearby, while Mumbai itself is not expected to witness any major rainfall activity.
Maharashtra weather update
Across Maharashtra, weather conditions are expected to remain divided on May 18 as several districts are likely to receive light to moderate rain or thundershowers. Rainfall activity has been predicted in Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Pune, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, Solapur, Jalna, Beed and Nanded, along with cloudy conditions in isolated areas.
At the same time, severe heat conditions are expected to continue in some districts. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Latur and Dharashiv districts, warning of thunderstorms with lightning, moderate rainfall and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour at isolated locations.
Heatwave-like conditions are also likely to persist in districts including Parbhani, Hingoli, Akola, Amravati, Chandrapur, Nagpur and Wardha. meanwhile in Jalgaon, temperatures have remained above 45 degrees Celsius for several consecutive days, with the mercury touching 45.6 degrees Celsius earlier this week.
