Prime Minister Modi reached Gothenburg on Sunday on a two-day visit. There he was given a special welcome by Sweden’s Prime Minister Ulf Christerson at the airport. Swedish Air Force fighter planes provided air escort as the Prime Minister’s plane entered Swedish airspace. It is being considered a symbol of the strengthening relations between India and Sweden.

Important discussions took place on trade, defense and AI

During the visit, delegation level talks also took place between Prime Minister Modi and the Swedish Prime Minister. In this meeting, detailed discussions were held to increase cooperation on trade, investment, defence, artificial intelligence, startups, climate change, space technology and emerging technologies. Both the countries expressed their commitment to strengthen the supply chain and work together on green transition i.e. green development model.

Trade reached 7.75 billion dollars

Economic relations between India and Sweden are continuously strengthening. Bilateral trade between the two countries will reach $7.75 billion in the year 2025. Experts believe that this partnership can become stronger in the coming years in technology, green energy and defense sectors.

Glimpse of Indian culture won hearts

The Indian community in Gothenburg warmly welcomed Prime Minister Modi. During this, Swedish opera singer Charlotte Huldt presented Mahatma Gandhi’s favorite bhajan ‘Vaishnav Jan To’, which made the atmosphere emotional. At the same time, students of Leela Academia presented Bharatnatyam. A glimpse of Bengali culture was also seen in the programme. Prime Minister Modi later said on social media that Bengali culture is liked all over the world and its popularity is clearly visible in Sweden too.

First visit to Sweden since 2018

This is Prime Minister Modi’s first visit to Sweden since 2018. Earlier, he had gone to Sweden to attend the India-Nordic Summit. According to experts, in the current global circumstances, increasing cooperation between India and the Nordic countries can open new possibilities in the trade, technology and defense sectors in the times to come.
