30 paise per kg onion price in this state, farmers crying tears of blood! What is the rate in your city

Price of onion

Farmers of Kurnool district are facing a big problem these days. The prices of tomatoes and onion have reduced so much that farming has become a loss deal for them. Many farmers have been forced to leave their crops or are throwing it on the roadside, because they are not getting the right price in the market. This is causing loss of both their hard work and expenses.

The price of onion in the market has come on such a fall that the price of one kilo of onion has been reduced to only 30 paise. Last year, the price of onion was Rs 6,000 per quintal, but this time farmers are facing huge losses due to this crop. Onion crop is also rotting due to rain, due to which the situation has become worse.

Traders are not shopping

The government started purchasing onions at a support price of Rs 1,200 per quintal through Markfed to help the farmers. So far, about 5,000 tonnes of onions have been purchased. Out of this, about 2,000 tonnes of onions have been sent to other areas of the state and Hyderabad, while the remaining 3,000 tonnes are lying in the market. The onion which has been purchased is being sold again to the traders through auction.

The minimum price of onion in the auction has been kept at Rs 30 per quintal, that is, the price of one kilo of onion is about 30 paise. Despite this, traders are not showing any interest in buying onions and there is no bid in the auction. Also, the onion left with the farmer is getting spoiled. Farmers are forced to throw their onion into the market.

At the same time, onion prices were recorded between ₹ 500 to ₹ 1,750 per quintal on 15 September 2025 in Azadpur Mandi of Delhi today. These prices depend on the quality and variety of onion. The highest price was ₹ 1,750, while the minimum was ₹ 500 per quintal. In this comparison, the prices of onion are very low in Kurnool.

Rain increased farmers’ problems

Onion crop is getting worse due to rain. Onion has started rotting due to moisture, which has increased the concern of farmers. Many farmers who brought onions to the market are returning without selling because buyers are not getting. Farmers say that onions worth about Rs 2 crore have been rotten and no merchant is buying on the onions which are fine. In such a situation, the prices of onion are continuously falling and there is a huge impact on the income of farmers.
