Samajwadi Party chief and Kannauj MP Akhilesh Yadav attacked the government while speaking in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, a day after the Delhi Police detained him for a brief period in the national capital.
On the third day of Parliament’s monsoon session, the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister raised the issue of police action against supporters of the Cockroach Janata Party during the Parliament march.
Lashing out at the Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Yadav questioned how tearing the clothes of daughters can be allowed. “Will you tear daughters’ clothes? Why can’t you speak up for the youth in the House?” he targeted the government.
“If the PM can speak on the students’ issue outside Parliament, why can’t he make a statement inside the House?” the former chief minister asked.
He slammed the government over the police action against students at Jantar Mantar during a CJP protest. The SP chief said, “This issue is not about the Samajwadi Party, Congress, or BJP; it is about the youth, students, and young people.”

Yadav’s statement in the Lok Sabha came two days after several students were injured in the police lathi charge during the “Parliament March” led by the Cockroach Janata Party, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and reform in the education system. Police resorted to a lathi charge in an attempt to stop the march as it was unlawful. According to police, the protest was not allowed due to the imposition of Section 163 during the Parliament Session. Several videos emerged on social media in which students were seen being beaten by the cops. Female students were also assaulted during the protest.
A day after the violence, Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav, along with other senior leaders from both parties, staged a sit-in protest outside the Prime Minister’s residence, prompting police to detain them. However, they were released after a few hours.
