vodafone idea
Troubled telecom company Vodafone Idea has made a major financial turnaround in the January-March quarter of the financial year 2025-26, registering a consolidated net profit of Rs 51,970 crore. This is believed to be the company’s first quarterly profit in nearly six years. Earlier, in the same quarter of the last financial year, the company had suffered a huge loss of Rs 7,167 crore.
Relief in AGR dues became a major reason for profit
The company said in the information given to the stock market that this profit was mainly possible due to the relief in Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR) liabilities. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) had said on January 27 that the total AGR dues on the company till December 31, 2025 are Rs 87,695 crore.
After this, on April 30, based on the review of the Revaluation Committee, this dues was reduced to Rs 64,046 crore for the period 2006-07 to 2018-19. This decision saw a big improvement in the financial condition of the company.
Balance sheet strengthened due to reduction in liabilities
Vodafone Idea said that under Indian Accounting Standards, a revised liability of Rs 24,880 crore was recorded by removing the financial liability of Rs 80,502 crore. This amount has been decided on the basis of the present value of future payments.
Due to this change, a positive impact of Rs 55,622 crore was recorded in the profit and loss account of the company. This brought relief to the company which was running in losses for a long time and also strengthened the balance sheet.
Increase in operating income also recorded
The company’s operating income increased by nearly three percent to Rs 11,332 crore during the January-March quarter, compared to Rs 11,229 crore in the same quarter of the last financial year. Talking about the entire financial year 2025-26, the company earned a net profit of Rs 34,552 crore, whereas a year ago it had a loss of Rs 27,384 crore. The annual operating income also increased to Rs 44,782 crore, which was Rs 43,454 crore in the last financial year.
Experts believe that the AGR relief has definitely provided temporary relief to the company, but in the long run, focusing on increasing customers and expanding the network will remain the biggest challenge for Vodafone Idea.
