Who was Ulupi, Arjun’s wife?
Ulupi was the princess of Naglok. His father’s name was Nagraj Kauravya who ruled Nagalok situated below the river Ganga. According to the Puranas, Ulupi was earlier married to a serpent but Garudadev killed him. After this Ulupi started living as a widow with her father in Naglok.

Where did Arjun and Ulupi meet for the first time?
According to Mahabharata, due to breaking the rules, Arjun once had to go into exile for 12 years. During this time, Arjun reached the river Ganga while on pilgrimage. While they were bathing, Ulupi saw them and became fascinated by them. Ulupi pulled Arjun under water with her power and took him to Naglok. There he expressed his love for Arjun and proposed marriage.
Arjun refused to marry?
Arjun refused the marriage proposal given by Ulupi because he was observing the vow of celibacy during his exile. Then Ulupi explained to them that the rules of the Earth world are not valid in any way in Nagalok. Ulupi also said that her love is true and her aim is to get Arjun’s company. Ultimately Arjun agreed and both of them got married. Ulupi had a son from Arjun who was named Iravan.
Ulupi saved Arjun’s life
After Yudhishthir became the king of Hastinapur, Pandavas performed Ashwamedha Yagya. Arjun was made the protector of the horse of this yagya. The Yagya’s horse wandered and reached Manipur. The king here was Babhruvahana, who was the son of Arjun and Chitrangada. Arjun fought with Babhruvahana and due to a curse he died at the hands of his own son. Then Ulupi brought Nagamani from Naglok and revived Arjun.
