Officials said the ring slipped directly into the drainage pipe and waste tank while the passenger was using the train toilet, leaving him convinced that it was gone forever.
Once the train arrived at Ahmedabad station, Western Railway staff immediately launched an operation to retrieve the missing ring.
The recovery effort was led by Senior Section Engineer (C&W) Sanjay Yadav along with CTS staff member Virendra Kumar Singh and other railway personnel.
According to railway officials, the team spent several hours working inside the train’s drainage and waste disposal system in an attempt to locate the ring.
Officials said the task was particularly challenging due to the foul-smelling pipelines and unhygienic conditions inside the waste tank.
Despite the difficult environment, the staff continued the operation and eventually managed to recover the gold ring successfully.
The recovered ring was later handed back to the relieved passenger.
DRM Ved Prakash praised the railway employees for their dedication, honesty and commitment to duty.
In a statement, Western Railway said its responsibility extends beyond transporting passengers and also includes protecting their belongings and trust.
The incident gained traction online after DRM Ahmedabad shared details of the recovery operation on social media.
Internet applauds
