Actress Mahwash is gearing up for the release of her upcoming web series ‘Satrangi: Badle Ka Khel.’ She emphasizes that the series tackles serious issues such as the folk art of ‘Launda Nach’ from North India and caste-based discrimination.
In a recent interview, Mahwash shared that she immediately agreed to the project after hearing the script. “When I heard the story, I realized it was not just entertainment but also a medium to convey a social message. Growing up in Uttar Pradesh, I witnessed these realities around me. Being part of that world was a meaningful opportunity for me. My character has many emotional layers, and for an actor, such complexity is always exciting,” she said.
The trailer of the series clearly indicates that its narrative is not solely about revenge but also about the fight for identity and self-respect. Mahwash pointed out that many people are still judged by their titles in society. Caste-based violence remains prevalent around us. “Through this series, we want to show the struggles people face due to factors beyond their control. It is undoubtedly a fight for identity and justice, and I hope society ultimately wins this battle,” she added.
In the series, Mahwash portrays a village girl from a powerful family who stands against the atrocities and caste system imposed by her own family. Regarding her rural character, she mentioned, “Honestly, I didn’t find it difficult because I have lived both kinds of lives. While ‘Pyar Paisa Profit’ showcased my Mumbai side, ‘Satrangi’ reflects my roots in Aligarh.”
She also revealed that reaching this point in her career involved countless auditions and rejections. “Getting here was challenging in itself, as you face numerous auditions and rejections before opportunities arise. You learn from rejection and gradually understand your craft. Acting for digital content and playing emotionally deep characters are not two separate worlds. If you truly know how to act, the transition happens naturally,” she concluded.
