Goa Congress leader Ketan Bhatikar dies due to snakebite, CM Pramod Sawant, others offer condolences

New Delhi: Goa Congress leader Ketan Bhatikar, who was the candidate for the assembly bypoll election in Ponda. died on May 14, due to an alleged snakebite, the police said. At the time of the incident, Ketan Bhatikar, was traveling with friends in Western Ghats when he stopped his car.

Snakebites at Karmal Ghat, declared dead on arrival

Sharing details, the police said, “Bhatikar had got down at Karmal Ghat, on the Goa-Karnataka border, for some reason, when a snake bit him. He was rushed to the Primary Health Centre in Dharbandora, Goa where doctors declared him brought dead.”

Bhatikar was candidate from the Congress party for the Ponda by-election. The election was called off by the high court. He had approached Supreme Court against the High Court order by Special Leave Petition, which  is still pending in the apex court.

The election was canceled by the Bombay High Courtin Goa, as there is only a few months remaining for assembly election, which is likely to be held early next year

Leaders Across Party Lines Mourn His Passing

Chief Minister of Goa Pramod Sawant offered his condolences. The CM in his X post wrote, “Deeply shocked and saddened to hear about the untimely passing of the renowned. physiotherapist, Dr. Ketan Bhatikar. His departure is a profound loss to the medical community. My heartfelt sympathies go out to his family and friends during this incredibly difficult time. May his soul attain Sadgati,”

The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee paid tribute to its leader. In a X post, it said, “We are deeply saddened by the passing of party leader Dr Ketan Bhatikar. His unwavering dedication, commitment to public service, and contribution to the party and society will always be remembered with great respect and gratitude.”

The Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao in his X post said, “Deeply saddened by the passing of our leader, Dr. Ketan Bhatikar. His unwavering commitment to public service will always be remembered. My heartfelt condolences to his family, relatives, and friends during this time of grief. May his soul rest in eternal peace,”
