Mumbai: Punjab Kings fast bowler Arshdeep Singh is once again embroiled in controversy. One of his comments on Mumbai Indians player Tilak Verma is being described as racist, after which there is an uproar on social media. This entire matter is related to a Snapchat video that surfaced on May 14.
In this video shared by Arshdeep, he is seen jokingly calling Tilak Verma ‘Andhere’ (ie dark complexioned). Tilak ignored it at first, but Arshdeep continued the joke and advised Tilak to apply ‘sunscreen’. After this, he pointed towards Punjab’s own player Naman Dheer and said that he is the real ‘Noor’ (ie light) of Punjab.

Even though this video was made as a light moment between the players, but fans on social media say that making fun of someone’s color cannot be tolerated at all. As soon as the video went viral, Arshdeep is being heavily criticized. One fan wrote, “Punjabi jokes often contain racist connotations, which is very sad.” Another user said, “This cannot be expected from a national player. This is not a joke, but an insult.”
