Trump says Xi was ‘100 per cent correct’ about US decline — but under Biden

Beijing: US President Donald Trump said Chinese President Xi Jinping was “100 per cent correct” in describing the United States as a declining nation, but claimed the remark referred to the years under former President Joe Biden. Trump made the remarks in a post on Truth Social during his ongoing visit to Beijing.

Trump blames Biden for US decline

“When President Xi very elegantly referred to the United States as perhaps being a declining nation, he was referring to the tremendous damage we suffered during the four years of Sleepy Joe Biden and the Biden Administration, and on that score, he was 100 per cent correct,” Trump wrote.

He accused the Biden administration of weakening the country through policies related to immigration, taxes, crime, and diversity programmes.

Trump claimed the US had “suffered immeasurably with open borders, high taxes, transgender for everybody, men in women’s sports, Diversity-Equity-Inclusion (DEI), horrible trade deals, rampant crime, and so much more!”

The US President argued that the country had witnessed “an incredible rise” during the first 16 months of his administration.

Trump pointed to record stock markets, military successes, foreign investments, and employment growth as signs of economic recovery.

“Two years ago, we were, in fact, a Nation in decline. On that, I fully agree with President Xi!” Trump said.

Trump on US-China ties

Despite sharp criticism of the previous administration, Trump struck a positive tone on relations with China.

“But now, the United States is the hottest Nation anywhere in the world, and hopefully our relationship with China will be stronger and better than ever before!” he added.

Trump also claimed that Xi had congratulated him on what he described as the administration’s “tremendous successes” during their summit meetings in Beijing.
