New Delhi: Delhi High Court Judge Swarana Kanta Sharma said on Thursday that she would initiate contempt proceeding against AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal and other discharged accused in the liquor policy case over ‘vilifying and defamatory material’ against her. he added that the excise case will be heard by a different bench.

The judge said this while hearing CBI’s plea challenging the trial court’s order on discharging the former Delhi Chief Minister, Manish Sisodia and 21 others in the liquor policy case. “It has come to my notice that extremely vilifying, extremely contemptuous, and defamatory material is being posted by some of the respondents against me and against this court and I cannot stay silent. I have decided to draw contempt proceedings against some of the respondents and some other contemnors,” the judge said as per news agency PTI. S
Earlier, the court had decided to appoint senior lawyers as amici curiae to represent AAP leaders Kejriwal, Sisodia and Durgesh Pathak. While hearing the case, Justice Sharma observed that even as some senior counsel “graciously accepted” the court’s recommendation, she came across the contemptuous material.
Kejriwal, others allege conflict of interest against judge
Notably, Kejriwal and other AAP leaders boycotted the hearing before her after she decided against recursing herself after they expressed apprehension of bias verdict . Kejriwal, Sisodia and 21 others were discharged the liquor policy case by a trial court. The AAP supremo and others have claimed that Justice Sharma’s children are empanelled central government lawyers and receive work through solicitor general Tushar Mehta, who appears for the CBI in the case.
Kejriwal and others wrote a letter to her stating that they would not be able to appear before her personally r through lawyers after she rejected their applications seeking her recusal in the case on April 20.
