Airtel owner will leave his chair in 10 years, now the entire empire will be in the hands of Next Gen!

Airtel owner Sunil Bharti Mittal

A very important news has come out for crores of customers of Bharti Airtel. Airtel, whose foundation was laid from Delhi in the year 1995, is now starting to decide on a new outline for its future. The company’s current Chairman and Managing Director Sunil Bharti Mittal has made it clear on Thursday that within the next decade i.e. 10 years, he will hand over the command of Airtel to the new generation. According to a CNBC report, Mittal revealed his big decision in the company’s earnings call. Along with this, he also expressed concern about the ongoing tension in West Asia, which is impacting the company’s business on many fronts.

10 year masterplan

Recently on Wednesday, Sunil Mittal has been re-appointed Chairman of Bharti Airtel for the next 5 years. This new tenure will be effective from October 1, 2026, although it is yet to be approved by the shareholders. This announcement of handing over the command in 10 years shows that this change of leadership in the company will not happen overnight, but the entire command will be transferred in a planned manner. Sunil Mittal, who started Bharti Enterprises, will continue to play the role of chairman in an executive capacity.

Recharge can be expensive

In the earnings call, Mittal made it clear that he is not happy with the current average revenue per customer (ARPU) figures and will take every possible step to increase it. Airtel’s mobile services segment in India generated revenue of Rs 28,831 crore in the recent quarter, an increase of 8 percent. The ARPU of the company has also increased by 5 percent from Rs 245 to Rs 257. This stance of the Chairman directly means that in future the company can increase the prices of recharge plans to improve its margins.

Revenue crossed Rs 2 lakh crore

If we look at the latest results for the quarter ending March 2026, the consolidated net profit of the company has declined by 33.5 percent to Rs 7,325 crore. The main reason for the decline in profit was one-time provision related to tax and other statutory liabilities. Last year, in the same period (March 2025), this figure due to one-time profit was Rs 12,476 crore. Despite all this, the company has achieved a historic milestone. Airtel’s annual revenue has crossed the magical figure of Rs 2 lakh crore for the first time due to the huge 40 percent growth in Africa business.

world’s second largest company

Airtel’s dominance is continuously increasing from India to Africa. In March 2026, the company crossed the mark of 65 crore customers. With this, Airtel has become the second largest telecom company in the world and it is the only telecom company in India to do so. The company’s smartphone data users in India have also increased by 2 crores. An average Airtel customer is now spending 31.4 GB of data every month instead of 25.1 GB. According to Executive Vice Chairman Gopal Vittal, financial year 2026 has proved to be a milestone for the company, which includes major steps like the launch of Sovereign Cloud and approval from RBI to start lending business.
