Yogi government has paid a record Rs 3,21,963 crore to sugarcane farmers in 9 years. Smart Sugarcane Farmer Scheme, DBT payments, sugarcane price hike, ethanol production and expansion of sugar mills have strengthened the farmers and rural economy.
Lucknow. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh government is continuously taking decisions in the interest of farmers. In the very first decision after the formation of the government, loans worth more than Rs 36 thousand crore of farmers were waived off. Along with this, continuous work is also being done to ensure timely payment of sugarcane price to the farmers.
Due to the transparent and technology-based system of the Yogi government, a record total payment of Rs 3,21,963 crore has been made to sugarcane farmers since 2017. This payment was sent directly to the bank accounts of the farmers, completely eliminating the role of middlemen. Sugarcane and sugar industry has now become a strong backbone of the rural economy in the state. The government is making continuous efforts to increase the income of farmers, provide employment to the youth and strengthen the rural economy.
Record sugarcane price payment in 9 years, amount many times more than previous governments
The policy of Yogi government in making timely payments to sugarcane farmers has been quite effective as compared to previous governments. Between 2007 and 2012, Rs 52,131 crore was paid to farmers, while between 2012 to 2017 this amount was Rs 95,215 crore.
Yogi government has created a new history by paying a record Rs 3,21,963 crore to the farmers during its 9 years of tenure. Through the government’s ‘Smart Sugarcane Farmer’ scheme, the entire process of sugarcane area, speculation, calendaring and issuing slips has been made online. Now farmers get sugarcane slip directly on mobile and payment through DBT directly reaches the bank account.
48 lakh farmer families benefit from increase in sugarcane price
Yogi government has increased the sugarcane price by Rs 30 per quintal for the crushing season 2025-26. According to the new rates, the price of early variety sugarcane has been fixed at Rs 400 per quintal and the price of normal variety has been fixed at Rs 390 per quintal. Due to this decision, farmers have received additional payment of approximately Rs 3000 crore. This is the fourth time during the tenure of Yogi government that the sugarcane price has been increased. About 48 lakh sugarcane farmer families of the state have got the benefit of timely payment and price increase. The government believes that the Sugarcane Development Department will play a big role in taking the state’s economy to one trillion dollars.
Uttar Pradesh becomes the largest sugarcane producing state in the country
The area under sugarcane cultivation is continuously increasing in Uttar Pradesh. In the year 2025-26, sugarcane was cultivated in 29.51 lakh hectare area in the state. Due to the efforts of Yogi government, Uttar Pradesh has become the leading sugarcane producing state of the country. A total of 121 sugar mills are operating in the state. These include 3 sugar mills of Uttar Pradesh State Sugar Corporation, 23 sugar mills of Cooperative Sugar Mills Association and 95 sugar mills of private sector.
These mills crushed 877.93 lakh tonnes of sugarcane and produced 89.68 lakh tonnes of sugar. In the last crushing season, the average sugar yield of Uttar Pradesh was 10.21 percent, while the sugar yield of Maharashtra was recorded at 9.49 percent.
Employment increased due to expansion of sugar mills and ethanol production
The work of restarting the closed sugar mills in the state, establishing new mills and increasing the capacity of the mills has been done rapidly. The crushing capacity of sugar mills has been increased by 1,28,500 TCD. Due to modernization of mills and industrial development, more than 10 lakh direct and indirect employment opportunities have been created in the state. An additional investment of approximately Rs 6924 crore has also been made in the last 9 years. Uttar Pradesh has also made a big achievement in the field of ethanol production. Due to the efforts of the government, ethanol production in the state has increased to 188 crore liters.
Big relief to farmers from e-sugarcane app and digital system
Sugarcane Commissioner Minsty S. said that modern technology and digital systems have been promoted for quick resolution of farmers’ problems. Facilities like e-sugarcane app, online survey, transparent slip distribution and grievance redressal system have provided great relief to the farmers. Now lakhs of farmers are getting all the information related to sugarcane sitting at home through mobile.
