3 dead, more than 25 injured in MP’s Dewas firecracker factory blast

New Delhi: A massive explosion took place in Madhya Pradesh’s Dewas district on May 14, around 11 am. The blast took place in Dewas’s Tonk Kalan area. Three labors named Dheeraj, Sunny and Sumit were killed in the explosion, as 25 others were injured, thirteen of the injured are reportedly in serious condition.

Three women’s missing, victims burned beyond recognition

The blast was so devastating that body parts were found 20-25 feet away, multiple workers sustained severe critical burn injuries. More than 200 workers were working in the factory while 15-25 workers were inside the unit at the time of the explosion. Three women are still missing, as stated by the eyewitnesses.

Eyewitnesses also said, multiple seriously injured workers came out of the factory helping each other’s. Victim’s clothes had melted into their skin and many workers had charred hair and peeling skin.

Locals and rescue teams quickly shifted the injured to the hospital, reportedly the identification of the workers is difficult because they were burned so badly.

Illegal factory, negligent administration, villagers allege

According to the locals, the explosion was triggered by the improper mixing of the chemicals. The accident happened just before lunch time, when food had already arrived at the site.

Villagers claimed that the factor was running illegally and accused the negligence of the administration. They said multiple concerns had been raised earlier and no strict action was taken against the factory.

Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav condoled the loss, senior officials have arrived the site for further investigation. The CM office has declared Rs 4 lakh to the family members of the deceased and free medical treatment to all injured.
