Along with this, the officials also inaugurated a new jail museum. This museum shows the journey of prisons from the era of Nizam to today’s modern correctional system. The museum also includes old shackles, restored prison cells and interesting stories of famous prisoners like Bhakta Ramadasu and Dasharathi Krishnamacharyalu.
People visiting here can also know about the industries running inside the jail, programs made for the improvement of prisoners and the contribution of prisoners in the construction of Nagarjuna Sagar Dam. This museum in Chanchalguda is inspired by the Sangareddy Heritage Prison Museum. The ‘One Day Jail Experience’ program of Sangareddy Jail had also made a lot of headlines earlier.
The initiative was inaugurated by Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla. He opened this new jail museum built at the State Institute of Correctional Administration (SICA), Chanchalguda, to the public. Officials said the aim of the program is to spread awareness about law, discipline and how the prison system works, especially among the youth.
Describing prisons as “centres of reform and change”, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla said a progressive society should focus not just on punishment but also on reform and second chances. Telangana jail officials say this Chanchalguda initiative is designed to provide a more organized and immersive experience for the public.
Jail DGP Soumya Mishra said, “This initiative is a new chapter in the reform programs of the state. This will help the public better understand the prison administration and rehabilitation of prisoners.”
