Law student Aliya Asadi has welcomed the lifting of hijab ban in Karnataka. Accusing the previous government of instigating students, he demanded re-examination for the affected girl students.
Bengaluru: Law student Aliya Asadi has welcomed the decision to lift the ban on hijab in Karnataka. Expressing her pain, she said, ‘The previous government had decided to ban hijab just two months before our second year PUC exam. All this was done at the instigation of Raghupati Bhat, the then president of our government college, Udupi, and Yashpal Suvarna, the present president.
‘BJP government instigated students to wear saffron gamchha’
Alia alleged that the then BJP government had instigated the students to wear saffron gamchha. He said, ‘We pleaded with the then government till the last day of our ordeal, but instead of giving us justice, we were left on the road. A conspiracy was hatched to make us look like criminals. The rule made for our college was implemented in the entire state. After this we had to approach the court and in the end it became a long legal battle.
We were continuously demanding this from the present government. After two years we have got this opportunity. Allowing the wearing of hijab as well as clothing of all religions is also a welcome step. However, it is also true that till PUC no one else had to face this problem except Hijab ban.
‘It’s a happy day’
Alia further said, ‘Whatever happens, it is a happy day for the students of Karnataka. The government should conduct re-examination for those girl students who could not take the exam due to the ban. I also want to advise the government to come forward and present positive arguments in this case going on in the Supreme Court and get the case closed. I thank the state education department.
