Uttarakhand CM Dhami cuts official convoy size by 50% amid energy-saving push

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed a 50 percent reduction in his official vehicle fleet as part of a broader push toward energy conservation and responsible resource management.
The move comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed for reduced energy consumption and efficient use of resources. Dhami said the appeal should be seen as a wider commitment toward sustainability, environmental protection, and responsible governance rather than only a fuel-saving exercise.

According to the Chief Minister, conserving resources is a shared responsibility that requires participation from both public representatives and citizens. He said state authorities should lead by example by limiting unnecessary use of government vehicles and encouraging more efficient travel practices.

Dhami also urged ministers, elected representatives, and government officials in Uttarakhand to reduce avoidable vehicle movement and make greater use of public transport wherever possible. He added that the state government would implement the measures with seriousness in an effort to support long-term sustainability goals.

The announcement is part of a wider conversation among several state governments on reducing fuel consumption and operational expenses amid rising concerns around energy demand and environmental impact. Officials believe such measures could also contribute to lowering administrative costs and promoting awareness about responsible energy use.

The Uttarakhand government has not yet shared details on how the reduction in the Chief Minister’s fleet will be implemented or whether similar limits will be formally introduced across departments.
