According to government estimates, around 150 to 200 young people leave child care institutions in Delhi every year after reaching adulthood. Many face difficulties related to housing, employment, financial stability, and the absence of family support systems. The new programme seeks to bridge that gap through structured assistance and personalised care plans.
The scheme will operate under the framework of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, and will be implemented by the Department of Women and Child Development. Reports indicate that the Delhi government has earmarked Rs 3.5 crore for the initiative in the 2026-27 financial year.
Officials stated that beneficiaries may also receive mentoring, emotional support, and help in accessing internships and employment opportunities. Monitoring and assessment mechanisms are expected to be carried out at the district and state levels to evaluate the progress of participants and ensure continued support where required.
