CBSE Class 10 12 Exam 2026 Rules: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued an important notice on 15 September, which describes the conditions required for students appearing in class 10th and 12th board examination of 2026. These changes have been made under the National Education Policy (NEP 2020). It has been clearly stated in the notice that it is not enough to fill the form only to join the board exam, but students will have to follow some important rules related to studies and attendance.
What are the important conditions of CBSE for 10th and 12th board exams 2026?
Two years of education compulsory for a student
- The 10th and 12th board exams will no longer be considered based on only one year of studies.
- Students will have to study for the entire two years of 9th -10th and 11th -12th.
- That is, both classes are connected to each other and it is necessary to cover it completely.
75 percent attendance required
- Students must have at least 75 percent attendance in regular school.
- According to the notice, internal assessment is now a compulsory part in every subject and it is a full two -year process.
- If a student does not go to school regular, then his internal assessment will not be completed and his result will be stopped.
- Such students will be put in essential repeat category.
Rules of additional subjects in 10th and 12th board exams
- In the 10th grade, students will be allowed to take 2 additional subjects in addition to 5 competition subjects.
- Only 1 additional subject can be taken in 12th standard.
- Additional subjects will also be mandatory to study for two years.
- Students of schools which have not taken permission from CBSE or who do not have a teacher or lab for that subject, cannot take the subject as a main or additional subject.

Rules for board exam compartment and private candidates
If a regular student fails in an additional subject or comes in a compartment or essential reepeat category, he can re -exam as a private candidate. But if the rules mentioned above are not fulfilled, then private candidates will also not be eligible to sit in the examination of additional subjects.
