New Delhi: After the NEET-UG examination was cancelled amid a paper leak and over 22 lakh students’ hard work went in vain, the National Testing Agency (NTA) announced a re-exam for the entrance test.
Protests erupt in the national capital after the NEET-UG exam gets cancelled, and several students pointed out China’s measure to conduct one of the biggest exams in the world, Gaokao, the national college entrance test.
The Gaokao exam is held for final-year high school students to secure an undergraduate seat in universities across the country. In 2025, around 1.335 crore students appeared in the exam.
Drones, AI, heavy police personnel around exam centres in China
In China, the manipulation of any examination is treated as a serious criminal offence. The government used drones and deployed police personnel around the exam centres. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is also provided to the officials to create a fortress-like system.
The Gaokao examination is conducted by China’s Ministry of Education, and the exam is similar to most of the exams in India, as students spend years in preparation for the examination.
China’s Gaokao is often compared to India’s Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), which is a gateway for students to secure a seat in top IITs and NEET for its difficulty level and scale.
Strict invigilation, identity verification, and anti-cheating measures are the top priority for the officials as they didn’t leave any chance for irregularities in the exam.
It is unfortunate that India’s one of the biggest exams, NEET, has leaked twice in the last three years as students prepare for years to score well in the exam and try to secure an undergraduate medical (MBBS), dental (BDS), or AYUSH seat after completing their 12th grade.
Students lose morale every time an exam is cancelled, and it’s time for the Indian government to take tough measures like China to conduct any exam smoothly.
The cancellation and a new date for the exam triggered panic among students, who had prepared day and night to score well on the examination and secure their future.
