77,320 people left the medicine course in the middle.
Semaglutide for weight loss: A group of drugs to prevent obesity, glucagon-lacquer peptide-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1 RAS), is an effective drug in losing weight. However, a new population-wide study presented at the annual meeting of the European Diabetes Studies Association (EASD) found that more than half of the youth who started taking weighing drug semaglutide in Denmark have given up eating this medicine within a year.
Many types of medicines are available in the market to reduce obesity. Of these, the drug is GLP-1 RAS. It is also called semaglutide which comes in a group of GLP-1 receptor agonist drugs. These medicines reduce the appetite of the body and indicate to the brain that the stomach is full, that is, they protect them from over Iting. Due to which a person eats less and weight loss. However, on the contrary, people do not complete the course of this medicine and stop taking semaglutide within a year.
What are the major reasons for leaving medicine
The annual price of the semaglutide drug course is around 2,000 euros with an Indian price of about 1.8 lakh rupees. Not everyone is able to afford such an expensive medicine. In many people, the problem of intestines and gas was seen increasing after taking this medicine, although many people already had these problems, but after taking the medicine, side effects like nausea, vomiting and diarrhea were seen increasing. For this reason, many people left the course of this medicine in the middle. The young people aged 18 to 29 were more among those who left the medicine in the middle. Apart from this, families with low -income also leave this medicine in the middle.
Statistics of leaving medicine in a year
Of the people who took Semaglutide for the first time, 77,320 people left the medicine course in the middle. 18% of people stopped taking semaglutide within 3 months, 31% of people in 6 months and 42% people within 9 months.
Another important fact is that it is common to re -grow weight after closing the drug. Professor Reimar W. Thomson says that these drugs are not a quick solution, they have to be taken for a long time. Otherwise, as soon as the effect of the medicine is over, the appetite increases again and the benefit of weight loss is lost.
Why is it a matter of concern?
Obesity is already growing rapidly in the world and especially Europe. More than half of the adults are either overweight or obese. In such a situation, if people start the medicine and leave it in the middle, then more danger on their health can increase like diabetes, heart disease and blood pressure.
This study suggests that weight loss medicines are effective only when people continue them for a long time. But expensive prices, side effects and lifestyle difficulties are its biggest obstacle. Experts believe that in future, such measures will have to be found so that people can remain constantly in the use of medicine and they can get better health benefits.
